The Last Picture House is located at 325 East 2nd Street, Davenport, Iowa.

Released in 1968, 2001: A Space Odyssey was nominated for four Academy Awards (director, art direction, screenplay (by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke) and visual effects. It won an Oscar for Best Special Effects. 

The film is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made. In 1991, it was selected by the United States Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry.

Synopsis: An imposing black structure provides a connection between the past and the future in this enigmatic adaptation of a short story by revered sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke. When Dr. Dave Bowman (Keir Dullea) and other astronauts are sent on a mysterious mission, their ship's computer system, HAL, begins to display increasingly strange behavior, leading up to a tense showdown between man and machine that results in a mind-bending trek through space and time.

Documentary "From Iowa & Back" screens at DeWitt Opera House June 14

The award-winning documentary From Iowa & Back: The Vietnam Era will show at the DeWitt Opera House   716 6th Ave, DeWitt, IA   on June 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM.   This is a free to the public screening sponsored by American Legion Post 238 and Michelle and Steven Martens.
